Existence

子曰:学而时习之,不亦说乎?有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎?人不知而不愠,不亦君子乎?

Confucius said: "Isn't it a pleasure to study and practice what you have learned? Isn't it also great when friends visit from distant places? If people do not recognize me and it doesn't bother me, am I not a Superior Man?"

Study and practice what I learn? Maybe.
Visit from friends? How true.
People do not recognize me? Is this suppose to bother anyone?

I almost turn down a friend's request to meet tonight. Number one reason: No time. Fortunately I still decided to make my way down after a shower and dinner. She's already in Yishun, my territory, how can I say no? Like confucius said, "Isn't it also great when friends visit from distant places?"

Yes, I agree Singapore is small, but to me, the heart to do it makes the difference. I really appreciated her effort. She said it's surprising that we can still have so much stuffs to talk about despite not seeing each other for months. Is it me? A friend has been calling me "a talkative guy" recently. I'm also not called "auntie" for nothing. Well, we are both talkative. At least this could be part of the reason.

Anyway, it's really a coincidental day. I was browsing my Heart-to-heart YEP journal today. And she called tonight. This is freaky. Heard that Aaron's going to graduate soon. Congrats. This leaves me, yes, only me, who's still studying full-time. Oh man, sad to say, good to know. *sighs*

Meanwhile, I better go and check my inline-skates for any sign of rust. I want to skate again... wait for me.... :)

Salad Cream

Who thinks that expensive things are good? Not all, at least generally I guess? Many of you must be thinking of Nike shoes right? Haha.. this often comes out when I speak to people about expensive and not-so-good track shoes. I have no special feelings for Nike. No comments. But my view has changed. I simply think that Michelle Wie looks gorgeous in Nike apparel.

But, since when did I sponsor her? Look at her cap. It has my initials on it!! Her deal with Nike and Sony is worth US$10m. I think I contributed S$1... but I didn't know they're so generous to give me a space on Michelle's head.. haha! Anw, for those who are truly interested, that stands for SasQuatch. The new driver by Nike. Expect to see more yellow monsters popping up among the greeneries. If you wana buy it in Singapore, please wait until mid Nov.

Sorry to digress. Expensive stuffs. Are they worth it? I've had bad experiences with substitutes. Be it shavers, or just salad creams, it didn't turn out well. Is it worth wasting the money to save money? Or should I say saving money to waste money? Maybe I prefer to spend more. At least for me, I can lie to myself. Picture this. You buy house-brand salad cream rather than Heinz, which you grew up eating. Not because you're sick of the taste, but because you expect that you'll eat more, so you want to save money by buying the other brand, which look promising. After buying and tryin it out, you regret. You curse and swear and will never buy that again. Now, imagine you bought something more expensive, but not Heinz. It don't taste as good as Heinz? Well, will you make up excuses in your mind to convince yourself that it's not that bad afterall? Sometimes I do. It's expensive you know! At least tell myself it's not that bad and finish it right? But, what if it's the same price as the cheapo-brand? Suddenly, it gets "abused" by you again right? Poor salad cream. Who ask you to be so cheap! Anw, my mum bought me a bottle of coleslaw dressing to substitute the substitute I acquired by mistake. Coleslaw isn't exactly salad cream, but I appreciated it, and still taste better than my mistake right?!
